February Awareness Month

February is American Heart Month

The month of love is here, so it is important to remember to keep your heart healthy. February is American Heart Month, and we would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of focusing on your heart health and taking steps toward a healthier future.

Did you know that heart disease affects 1 in 3 adults and causes approximately 697,000 deaths annually? Many issues can lead to heart disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. But all of these issues are manageable with lifestyle changes and regular care!

Here are some tips to help you stay healthy and take charge of your heart health:
1. Know Your Numbers: Schedule a checkup to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.
2. Stay Active: Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
3. Eat Heart-Healthy Foods: Focus on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while limiting sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars.
4. Quit Smoking: If you smoke, quitting can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease.
5. Manage Stress: Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation to lower stress levels.

At MedNOW, we offer a Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Program and provide you with a blood pressure monitor if you choose to join. You check your blood pressure daily and send us the results. We review your readings and adjust your blood pressure medication as needed. This program helps improve blood pressure control, reduces complications, and may decrease the need for office visits and their associated costs, saving you time. If you’re interested in participating, let us know!

If you would like to schedule an appointment with us, please call your MedNOW Clinic. You can also schedule an appointment by clicking the link on our website.

Alcoholism is becoming an ever-growing issue. Did you know that 14.5 million people ages 12 and older have had some alcohol use disorder, and excessive alcohol use contributes to over 140,000 deaths a year in the U.S.? April is Alcohol Awareness Month, and we would like to use this time to shine a light on this massive issue that is plaguing people and families everywhere. We want to encourage reflection on the impact that alcohol can have on health, relationships, and your well-being. Alcohol use may be common in our society, but it is still important to recognize how drinking may be affecting your life and the lives around you. If you or a loved one is struggling with drinking, please speak to your MedNOW provider or call your MedNOW clinic. We would be happy to help those who are struggling to obtain the treatment they need. Did you know that we have great medications to curb cravings for alcohol? Naltrexone is the number one FDA-approved drug for this purpose. This once-a-day, generic medication reduces alcohol cravings by up to 90%! It also has very few side effects. There are other FDA-approved medications as well, and there are also over-the-counter herbal medications that help to curb alcohol cravings. If you have any questions regarding alcoholism or alcohol abuse, the CDC provides excellent information. If you think you or a loved one may have an issue with alcohol and need immediate help, please call the National Drug and Alcohol Treatment Hotline: 1-800-662-HELP (4357). Thank you for taking care of your health!
