Interventional Pain Management

Patients suffering from chronic pain have varying needs for treatment. Our providers assess each patient's individual needs in order for them to achieve their goals. Whether they wish to live a more comfortable life, better manage their current symptoms, or taper off of medication, our providers can help. Each new patient is taken through an intake process where we can learn more about the patient's history, gain information from previous treatment, and understand the goals of the patient. From there, they are matched with a provider that can best assess their needs and get them on the road to living a more comfortable life.

Physical Therapy

Our Aurora clinic offers individualized physical therapy sessions. Patients experiencing pain can benefit tremendously from physical therapy. The therapy sessions include customized treatment plans that can include strength training, stretching and flexibility, temperature therapy, and acupuncture. Physical therapy helps to improve flexibility and strength while reducing painful inflammation in joints and muscles. It is found to be an important supplement to all pain treatments.

Psychological Therapy

All patients at MedNOW Clinics have access to behavioral health services. We understand that pain management is not only physically taxing, but mentally as well. Our behavioral health providers meet with individual patients to assess their needs and devise a treatment care plan that best serves the patient. This can include assessment of preexisting mental health concerns in addition to preventative behavioral health support.

Opioid Tapering

For those who have been taking opiate medications for years, it can seem impossible to wean off of medications without the help of a medical provider. MedNOW provides treatment to assist patients in tapering their dose of opiate medications while still controlling their pain symptoms. This treatment has been extremely successful in helping patients regain their independence from daily medications.

EMPOWER Study

Interested in gently reducing your use of opioids over one year?

MedNOW Clinics offer the EMPOWER study for people who qualify.

Here’s what it involves:

  • You will partner with a MEDNow doctor to gently reduce your opioid dose over one year with close support.
  • You may be assigned to receive one of two free and online pain-relief skills classes.
  • You will be asked to complete weekly surveys to help your doctor understand your comfort level and whether medication adjustment is needed and monthly surveys to help the team know how you are doing overall.
  • You may receive up to $220 for participating.

EMPOWER is a collaboration between Stanford University and MedNOW that is funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). We are comparing ways to help patients who wish to reduce their opioid doses do so without having increased pain.

If you are interested in participating in the EMPOWER study or would like more information, please contact the MedNOW study coordinator Alex Otto at (720) 498-5541 or alexotto@stanford.edu. Ms. Otto is based in Denver.
